The company was founded in 1968 to sell propane and service gas appliances in Colorado Front Range communities. Not very many years thereafter it was named Action Gas. In the early 1970's the owners acquired Independent Gas Company of Granby and began selling propane to residential customers in the Conifer, Evergreen and Pine areas as Independent Gas Company. In 1996, the company modified the name slightly to Independent Propane Company.
